Polytechnic lecturers to go on strike from August 22

Kaduna: The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has disclosed its intention to embark on a strike action starting from August 22, 2016, should Federal Government fail to honour the agreement it reached with the union in 2014.
The Co-ordinator of ASUP Zone A, Comrade Kabir Yunusa disclosed this yesterday in Kaduna at the end of an emergency meeting on the state of the union and other issues between ASUP and the Federal Government.

It would be recalled that the union in May 2013 embarked on an industrial action that lasted nine months. It took the intervention of well-meaning Nigerians for the union to suspend the action.

Yunusa however, lamented that two years after the suspension of the strike action, no significant progress had been made in resolving the issues in dispute. “We are equally saddened that our expectations, heightened by the promises of a new administration in the country, seems to have been misplaced as there is no indication that the government is set to reposition the sector,” he said.
